Eastern Virginia Career College (EVCC) is proud to celebrate 30 years of existence and 25 years of national accreditation. Serving Central and Southern Virginia, the college is a big contributor to the regional healthcare, wellness, and technology workforce. With campus locations in Fredericksburg and Richmond, EVCC has attributed to the steady growth of local professionals.
Accelerated and Flexible Career Pathways
The accelerated nature of EVCC draws in working professionals, parents, and recent high school graduates. Students can complete their program in one year or less with the appropriate prerequisites, which is ideal for those getting started as professionals or navigating a mid-career transition. EVCC has grown exponentially over the years with 21 programs offered to date. Students earn associate degrees, diplomas, or certificates, transitioning seamlessly into careers as nurses, allied health professionals, estheticians, and massage therapists. In addition to health and wellness professions, the college has expanded its academics to include a career path to the evolving world of technology. EVCC recently launched fully online, accelerated AI and Cybersecurity programs. These pathways allow students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in technology in approximately one year.
Expanding Across Virginia
The college’s growth doesn’t stop from within, as its footprint expands into other areas of Virginia. Recently, EVCC’s Richmond campus officially opened to offer courses south of its main location. The EVCC team hopes that this expansion furthers access to quality education and provides opportunities for career entry. Abdullah Johnson, Vice President of Student Engagement, emphasized that this continuous expansion is designed to elevate the student experience. “We have strengthened our academic quality, enhanced student support services, invested in technology and facilities, and expanded partnerships with employers and clinical sites,” he said. “EVCC has remained focused on preparing students for meaningful careers.”
A Historic Milestone for Students
Over the years, it is clear that student success is a pilar of EVCC’s mission, as roughly 5500 students have graduated to date. Most recently, 200 graduates were recognized at EVCC’s largest graduation ceremony in its 25-year history. With joy, the classes of 2025 and 2026 collected their diplomas and certificates in front of friends, family, and fellow classmates. Many students graduated with the assurance of a job waiting for them on the other side. This marked their graduation as the beginning, not just the end. For the EVCC community, success is measured by career outcomes rather than enrollment numbers. The goal is to ensure students secure meaningful employment that allows them to provide exceptional care and service to their communities. The EVCC team believes that granting opportunity can mean a lot for one’s future.
Visions for the Future
Dr. Maddipatla credits the success of the college to the hardworking EVCC team. With a staff of more than 100 professionals, staff and instructors work to prepare the next generation of exceptional healthcare, wellness, and technology professionals. “We remain fully committed to providing innovative programs, equitable opportunities, and a supportive environment where every student can transform their potential into reality,” Maddipatla said. Vice President of Financial Services and Operations Shrenik Sheth expressed confidence in the future as alums carry the school’s legacy forward through their communal impact. EVCC plans to expand its program offerings and scale its successful model nationwide to reach more communities. “It has been rewarding to be a part of an institution that continues to grow while keeping student success at the center of every decision,” Johnson reflected. “Our mission is to provide exceptional learning opportunities to a diverse student community through student-focused instruction in the classroom, online, and through labs, clinics, and work-based experience,” Maddipatla said.
